The mission of the community college is continually evolving. These institutions evolved from two-year technical schools to a pathway for our nation's military to gain an education through the G.I. Bill. It became the only opportunity for many low-income students to experience higher education. It became a tool for business to train and enable workers to meet business needs. And now, as our country emerges from a recession, displaced workers and industry are looking again to community colleges to put the country back to work and restore the nation's prosperity.

As the Community College sets its agenda for the next decade, there are future issues on the horizon. How these issues are addressed will impact its survival and success.
